Map: Cité des Jeunes

For the first time in over a decade, we have permission to hold Winter events in
Gatineau Park. The recent snowfall is perfect timing for the first event, a Snowshoe and
Fat Bike Rogaine out of the Relais Plein Air / P2 area. There is a Ski-O planned for
early March.

There will be a mass start, with the option of 1.5 hours or 3 hours, depending how long
you would like to enjoy this winter playground. All controls are on the official Snowshoe /
Fat Bike Trails in the southern half of the Park (P3 – P5).
The following symbols have been used to map the winter trails. A special symbol has
been used to map the multi-use trails the have both ski and snowshoe/fat bike trails.
The Gatineau Parkway is a multi-use trail for its full length of the map. The Fat Bike /
Snowshoe lane is on the east or north side of the Parkway. There are also a couple of
small connector trails that are multi-use.

While you may cross them at right angles, no competitors may go along the Ski Only trails. We do not want to get banned from this area for future events. The summer trails have been left on the map, as some of them may have been snowshoed in. There may also be other random trails that snowshoers have made that are not mapped. Therefore, as always, use all the information available on the map when making route choices. Fat Bike participants must stay on the trails or permitted roads, while the
Snowshoe participants may have more route choices.

Standard Score-O scoring will be used. 5 points per control, 1 point for each minute early if the course is completed and –2 points for each minute late. The full 3 hour course has a little over 30 controls, so you would need a SI stick capable of that if planning to clear the course.

Parking for the event will be at Mont Bleu – P2. Registration will be inside the Relais Plein Air. The start and finish are just outside the registration building. The schedule is as follows:

  • Registration: 9:30 – 10:00 am
  • Map Distribution Outside: 10:10 am
  • Mass Start: 10:15 am
  • Finish: 1.5 hour – 11:45 am, 3 hour – 1:15 pm

All competitors must download at the finish by 1:30 pm

Regular Meet fees apply. If you do not already have a Gatineau Park pass, you can purchase a Daily Pass at the Relais Plein Air. You can also rent snowshoes and fat bikes at the start location, but you must reserve them right away online as they book up quickly on the weekends. Full information can be found at https://boutique.relaispleinair.ca/collections/location-dhiver-winter-rental The weekend is shaping up to be perfect for winter activities, so we look forward to seeing many of you out this weekend.

See you on Sunday,
Paul Lefebvre Meet Director
