"Setting a Novice Course" exercise as part of the Fall School Challenge for elementary and high schools.

For this week's program we have slated "Setting A Novice Course" on Saturday Sept 19 from 2:00 - 4:00 @ South March Highlands in Kanata (meeting place the intersection of Klondike and Second line Roads)...We will explore an urban forest with a more dense trail network by learning how to set a novice orienteering course through a series of group exercises designed to consolidate the connection between the terrain and the representation of the map. We will also review the concept of the safety bearing through an off trail exercise.

This promises to be a very active session concluding with a mock competition traversing the course we set as a group...The following day we invite participants to participate on our regularly scheduled novice or intermediate course in the same terrain.

Remember that pre-registration by email is required to the school fall program coordinator at schools@ottawaoc.ca, by Thursday September 17 with your intention to participate so that there will be sufficient maps and SI timers for your course. and that the fee for students is $6 while there is no fee for teachers and their families

Tecahers can enter groups or students can enter independently.
