Want to improve your orienteering and map reading skills? Want to hang out with other folks who want to improve their orienteering and map reading skills? Or do you just like orienteering lots and lots (as in up to 6 hours in 3 days lots)? Regardless, this training weekend will help you do all of the above and will. be a ton of fun besides. Join your fellow club members and those from other clubs for a fun weekend of orienteering guided by Orienteering Ottawa's expert coaches at Foley Mountain Friday June 1st to Sunday June 3rd.

Orienteering Ottawa's 4th annual Spring Training Weekend will revisit the 2017 Canadian Champs terrain at Foley Mountain and in Perth on the first weekend of June. We will post details here as they become available.

The full camp includes one evening training session and a presentation on Friday, 2 training sessions and evening activities on Saturday, and 2 sessions on Sunday. Sunday morning's session is combined with our Spring Series Event at Foley Mountain so that event is open to everyone. The rest of the camp is open to orienteers who consider themselves to be at an intermediate level or higher. The camp schedule also includes a couple of group meals and very fun social weekend.

We will have coaches working with 4 groups:

  • Intermediate level
  • Advanced level
  • Train to Train Program
  • National Team/High Performance Level

Accommodation

Our park permit includes access to the interpretive centre and the picnic area around it all weekend long. We encourage participants to set up tents and camp there on site or set up a mattress and sleeping bag on the floor in the interpretive centre. Camping or sleeping inside on site is free.

If you do not want to take advantage of this option you can find accommodation in Westport (5 minutes from Foley Mountain) or in Perth (25 minutes away and the location of Saturday afternoon's training and activities).

Food

You will need to provide your own breakfasts and packed lunches (to eat on site between morning and afternoon training sessions). We will provide additional water at all training sessions though not enough to be everyone's sole source of water. On Sunday morning after the event there will cookies and fruit post-race.

On Friday evening we will coordinate some sort of communal meal (details tbd). On Saturday we will coordinate a reservation for dinner at a restaurant in Perth based on numbers and preferences during the day.

Costs

When you register you will have the option to register for Saturday, Sunday or the full weekend. The full weekend option includes both Saturday and Sunday's training as well as Friday evening's activities.

Orienteering Ottawa club members' get a discounted rate. Club members that have a season's pass get a further $10 off if they are participating on Sunday morning (i.e. for Sunday and full weekend options).
