Pinecrest Sprints are offered through the MapRun App (no flags or control boxes but punching with GPS with your phone, Garmin or Apple watch). If you haven’t already got your membership and web account sorted out see the details below.

These will be MapRun events so no flags or control boxes but punching with GPS with your phone, Garmin or Apple watch. We will provide more details later in the week but you can expect the courses to be open throughout the weekend so you can pick your time.

There will be three courses available: Short Sprint: 3.5 km (letter size paper), Long Sprint 5 km (letter size paper) and a Score-O (60 minutes, 23 controls, 20 pts per control and 10 pt penalty for each minute or part you are late, legal-size paper). The default S/F is south across Iris Street from the IKEA store. If you wish you can start anywhere the courses and this control becomes your new Start and Finish ( the original S/F becomes a regular control). There are more details under the MapRun page but, if you want to keep it simple just stick with the default and head to IKEA for meatballs after.

Remember these are sprints so obey sprint rules – no climbing over fences. Some of the properties being used are school grounds and I have modified the map to extend fences across any gates where they have told me they lock them after hours – that’s a hint – look closely! It is a busy area so watch for traffic – cars, bikes and people! Remember that GPS is not perfect and accuracy depends a bit on your device so make sure you are using the best setup option and you have checked things like MapRun can run in the background and has access to location services. I have kept the punching zone fairly wide to assist those with older devices but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go to the control even if your device punches early.

The Members->MapRun Maps page contains more details on these events and links to the maps for downloading as well as to the results. Timings:

Maps will be uploaded Friday Morning – download and print anytime (but no studying them).

Events can be downloaded anytime but are locked with a PIN (the maps include a QR code to help with this download but you can navigate through the folders to the Ottawa->Pinecrest Spring Weekend.

Events Open (the PIN requirement has expired): Friday 4pm.

Event Ends Sunday 6pm.

Access is limited to members and you need to have a login account on the website – if you don’t already have these, to get a membership go to ottawaoc.ca and click on the ‘Join Us’ to get a membership (lots of benefits to this besides MapRun). To get the web account click on the login button to apply for an acount ('Create an account'). Don’t leave this too late as accounts might take a day or two to be approved.

Once you can login, details on Maprun will show up in the ‘For Members’ section and this would be a good time to get the app installed and tested. Once available, location, courses, access to maps (you will need to print your own), and other details will appear on the Members->MapRun Maps page (scroll down to the table and look for the ‘Time Limited Special Events’ section.

Note: If you have just created your account and the MapRun does not appear, sign the waiver and MapRun will appear for you - It must be the waiver within the For Members area. Any difficulties - contact web@ottawaoc.ca

Another option, Montreal Ramblers club will have a forest event - Angrignon Park
