All Saints HS Training - Reading Specific Features Advanced Training
April 24th 2014 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Map: All Saints HS
The focus of this week's training session is on reading specific features of the map. We will be looking specifically at contours and land forms, vegetation (rough open land, different thickness of forest, etc.), and cliffs and rock features. After a discussion about reading and interpreting these different features on the map we will run three loops. Each of these loops will be on a map with all the features removed except for those we are wanting to focus on (ie contours only, vegetation only, etc.) After those three loops we will run a fourth loop with everything on the map and it is up to you to pick out the detail you need to focus on to orienteer most effectively. We will wrap up with a discussion about how this went and what you might practice to further improve these skills.
Meet in the All Saints High School parking lot at 6:00 for discussion. We will be heading out on course around 6:30.
