NRC North Training - Advanced Control Descriptions Advanced Training
May 8th 2014 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Map: NRC
Last week the focus was on picking out your control from a distance and knowing where you are going next. This week we ease back on how quickly the controls come at you but increase the technical difficulty. The focus for this week's training session is on reading your control descriptions and knowing exactly where your control will be as you approach the control circle. We will start with a discussion about what your process should be going into the control and how knowing the control description is key to being able to run smoothly 'through' a control. The physical exercise is a series of intervals that you will run with other orienteers of similar speed. In each control circle there will be three or four controls all within a metre of each other and you need to be able to say with confidence which one is yours. Not everyone will have the same 'right' answer. As usual we will start and end with a group discussion where we can share ideas and I can give you some tips and feedback about what you are doing well and can improve on.
We will meet at 6:30 for discussion in the parking lot marked by the pin below. We will be heading out on course around 7:00.
