Map: Constance Bay

Meet Director: Peter Williamson;  Controller: Philip Matthews

April 15th:

As of April 14 the woods are almost snow free and are quite dry, thanks to the very sandy soil. As usual, we have the 4 course formats,

  • novice at 2 km,
  • intermediate at 4.3 km,
  • short advanced at 5.4 km,
  • long advanced at about 8.3 km.

Registration is 10:00 - 11:00, as usual, at the Constance Bay Community Centre on Len Purcell Drive. There is some construction at the building so look for the entrance on the west side of the building. All participants should be back by 2 pm.

Things to keep in mind for this event:

  • Much of the mapping was done around 2001, and the vegetation has changed somewhat, but the contours seem good and trails have been updated on the map. There are lots of trails to keep track of.
  • Some of the woods has fairly short but scratchy undergrowth, so leg covering for the intermediate and advanced courses is strongly recommended.
  • Also, there are some areas where the poison ivy is quite healthy in the summer. Of course leaves are off, but those who are highly allergic (you know who you are) should probably take the necessary precautions.

April 7th:  There is probably still 90% snow coverage at Torbolton Forest, but it is thin enough that it is very likely that the snow will be mostly or completely gone by April 19th. The soil is very sandy and well drained so we expect mostly dry ground. The terrain is relatively flat, but has nice features, and large areas of the forest are great for running off-trail, with good visibility and almost no heavy undergrowth. We will have the usual 4 courses. The start location is at the Constance Bay Community Centre on Len Purcell Drive. Registration opens at 10, first starts are at 10:30. More details will follow during the week before the event.
