Map: Stony Swamp

Meet Director: Philipe Turcanu Controller: Linda Connell

We are just about ready to get under way with our second score-o of the series held in our wonderful Stony Swamp forest! Here are a few important course notes:

There are a total of 24 controls out there with an infinite number of routes depending on your handicap. The time limit is 60 minutes. The controls are a mix of beginner intermediate and advanced controls. As a general tip, have a good plan for every leg no matter how easy it may seem as there are a lot of subtle features that could confuse you along the way.

For those elite runners looking to visit all controls, the optimal routes will range between 7.5km-9km depending on how aggressive your route is through the forest. The aggressive route through the forest will nto always be the fastest one!

Stony swamp is a fantastic area filled with a rich trail network and a lot of variation in vegetation. Although the course was designed to avoid all rough forests, because of ticks and poison ivy in certain spots, LONG PANTS are RECOMMENDED.

Special Feature!!!

Above is a special features used by a number of controls in the area, this is nothing more than an artificial rock face. The feature is marked as a man made object in the control descriptions.

Marshes will be dry this time of year so expect most marshes to appear as clearings in real life.

Course does go near a residential area. There are a few indistinct trails leading towards people's backyards that are not marked on the map but you should not need them to successfully find those controls with ease.

The race has a mass start format and the start will be at 6:45 sharp. Please arrive early as to register and prepare yourself for the race.

If anyone wants to help me pick up some controls afterwards, a few hekping hands would be greatly appreciated!

See you in the woods!
