Map: Gillies Grove

Meet Director/Controller: Anne Teutsch/Jeff Teutsch

The fall season is about to start! Our first meet is this Sunday, September 10 in Arnprior. Back to where we were for the NAOC2014 sprint. All races will start and finish at Robert Simpson Park. We have a gorgeous novice course planned in amongst the trails and big, big trees of Gillies Grove. The intermediate course will take you through Robert Simpson Park and Gillies Grove and will give you a taste of urban sprint orienteering through some school yards and public spaces The Advanced courses will feature map exchanges – one for the Short Advanced, 2 for the Long Advanced; if this is new for you, don’t panic, it’s easy and we’ll show you the way it works! You will see Gillies Grove, Robert Simpson Park, the Ottawa and Mississippi Rivers, the local parks and even a few local streets for those on the long course.

Bring a picnic – the park is beautiful and you can swim in the river.

Regular start times – registration 10:00 am to 11:00 am; starts 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Everyone MUST be back by 2:00 pm.

Hints and requests:

  • There is a little poison ivy in the forest. We’ve tried to keep you out of most of it, and it’s not very big or imposing where it is, but do wear long pants.
  • Part of our course goes over a beautiful piece of property – the Galilee Centre. It is a retreat, where quiet is appreciated. Please be respectful!
  • As always please be respectful of others using the trails, the forest and the parklands that we share with other users.
  • Arnprior is just a 45 minute drive from Ottawa. Do join us!

New at orienteering or a bit rusty? Think you may need a quick review of map reading or some help with route planning? Join us at 10:30 for a 15 minute Mini-Intro to Orienteering. We ask that you arrive early enough to register for the event first so you have a map in-hand. Look for the sign near the registration table and we'll see you there.
