Map: Lac Beauchamp

Meet Director/Controller: Jeff Teutsch/Rorry Harding

The event at the Parc du Lac Beauchamp (see Google Maps) is both our Fall Family Day event as well as a regular Sunday event with the usual 4 courses.

The Family Day portion of the event will consist of a variety of orienteering related activities for kids including a maze, a couple of SI challenges and some sprint and micro orienteering by the beach; some outdoor lawn games such as the classic Swedish Kubb and boccia and more.

Of course, we also encourage families to try the novice or intermediate courses in the woods! See below for more details on that.

Finally there will be a cash BBQ for everyone so bring a bit of cash with you and come out and enjoy the beautiful weather we have in the forecast.

The traditional four orienteering courses have stats as follows:

  • Novice: 2.3 km and 14 controls.
  • Intermediate: 3.0 km and 15 controls
  • Short Advanced: 4.3 km and 15 controls
  • Long Advanced: 7.3 km and 25 controls

The woods are super open and beautiful and there is plenty of detail to challenge even the best orienteers. There are tons of trails throughout the park but the advanced courses are all designed so you'll cross them lots but almost never run along them.

There are a lot of new mountain bike trails throughout the park which go in all sorts of directions and can be confusing if you are not careful so make to check your compass and read your map!

In the north-west section of the map we have done some heavy updates to the map so all of the mountain bike trails should be up to date. As a bonus we have also redrawn most of the contours in that section and updated some of the vegetation, rock and water features as well.

The short and long advanced courses also venture onto the east side of the map which has not been updated. All of the major trails are still there (we checked!) but there is the odd new mountain bike trail to watch out for.

There's something for everyone so we hope you'll join us on Sunday!

New at orienteering or a bit rusty? Think you may need a quick review of map reading or some help with route planning? Join us at 10:30 for a 15 minute Mini-Intro to Orienteering. We ask that you arrive early enough to register for the event first so you have a map in-hand. Look for the sign near the registration table and we'll see you there.
