Organizers: Jeff Teutsch (Coach), Jennie Anderson (Coach)

Map: Beaverbrook

Parking and meeting point: We will meet at the back of the parking lot for the Mlacak Centre / Library at 2500 Campeau Dr in Kanata. The pin in the map below is in the exact location.

Training:

The intermediate group will be doing a map walk and discussing some of the differences between sprint maps (Typically 1:5000 or 1:4000 maps like this one in urban areas) and forest maps.

The advanced and high performance groups will have a series of loops which can be done at an interval pace (or not) to practice the quick decision making required of sprint orienteering. The loops will cover a variety of sprint terrain types from parkland to forest to residential / urban.

Train to Train athletes will join either the intermediate or advanced group depending on their experience level.

There will be no SI or other timing for this training.

HPP and some of the Train to Train program athletes will start with a group warm-up that anyone is welcome to join.

A reminder to please e-mail Jeff Teutsch at programs@ottawaoc.ca by noon on Thursday to reserve a map. We do not guarantee maps for those that don't send an e-mail.

Note: Everyone should have a headlamp for this practice (we strongly recommend one with at least 1000 lumens) as it will be getting dark before the end of the session. If you have any questions about purchasing a headlamp please let us know.
