Map: Constance Bay

Meet Director/Controller : Paul Lefebvre, Mary-Ellen Connolly

This weekend's forecasted snowfall is providing us with an excellent opportunity to hold the first ski orienteering on our Constance Bay Map. Since the majority of these trails are not groomed, just the right amount of snow is needed to have a safe and fun event. Right now all of the trails and forest is covered with a firm layer of snow from last weekend. Saturday nights snowfall should make everything perfect for ski, snowshoe and fatbike orienteering.

While there may be some fresh snowmobile tracks Sunday morning and the possibility that the main snowmobile trail is groomed by race time, it is expected that classic or backcountry skis will be the best choice for the event. However, a lot of the map is flat, so a strong double poler on skate skis may be okay with the correct route choice.

The skiers will start first to have fresh tracks, followed by snowshoers and then the fat bikers can race on the packed trails. These will be individual starts, not a mass start event. All competitors will have a choice of a Short 4.5 km or a Long 8.5 km course. The courses will close at 12:45 pm, due to the AGM later in the afternoon. Please make sure you choose the correct course length to allow you to finish in time.
