Pre-registration is required and costs $15 per session or is $80 for the 8 weeks of fall practices (but pre-registration is still required). In order to guarantee that you get a freshly printed map please register by noon on Thursday. We will do our best to accommodate those that register Thursday afternoon by sharing maps.

All participants must fill out a health declaration on Thursday before the practice.

Parking and meeting point:

We will meet on Burnt Lands Rd (off March Rd). Look for the club banner. See google maps here for the exact location.

Practice details:

All groups will be focusing on compass work today - the perfect exercise for a small flat area :)

There will be a series of short (1-1.5km) loops. Advanced and Team Canada athletes will have the option of doing the oops with a 'fog-o' map where parts of the map are blanked out.

The advanced group and Team Canada athletes will have a session that is split between detailed map reading and compass bearing work - two critical foundational skill! The compass bearing portion is a 3km course through relatively flat and generally open terrain. The map reading exercise is a 1.8km micro orienteering course at 1:2,500 scale. It should be both really challenging and really fun!

You will want to have a headlamp with you this week as it will be getting dark around 7:00, and about half an hour earlier in the woods. We recommend a headlamp with a rating of at least 500 lumens and more is better. If you have any questions about headlamps just ask (jeff@ottawaoc.ca)

All participants should also bring a compass (we will have a few extras if you don't have one) and, optionally, a control description holder.
