Larose Forest Fall Series
October 3rd 2021 10:00am - 2:00pm
Map: Larose Forest
On Sunday October 3rd come and orienteer in the majestic pine forest of Larose Forest. This map, last used for O-Fest in 2019, offers mostly open runnable forest, mainly flat terrain with few details, a few steep and deep ravines, and a good trail network for the easier courses. The map does not have a single rock feature, no boulders, no cliffs!
Map scale
- 1:10,000, 5m contours for Short and Long Advanced courses
- 1:7,500, 5m contours for Novice and Intermediate courses
Parking and Arena
The event location is Larose Forest P7, 4368-4890 Indian Creek Rd, Clarence-Rockland, ON K0A 2M0. View this location on Google Maps.
Larose Forest has an extensive mountain bike trail network. The orienteering courses avoid most of the MTB-trails, but some legs cross MTB-trails. Depending on route chosen you may run along a bike-trail for a short distance. Please be courteous to the bikers and step off the trail to let them pass.
Four courses are offered.
- Novice 2.3 km, 12 controls. The course is all along trails.
- Intermediate 3.2 km, 13 controls. The course is partly along trails, with some controls off trail but close to trails. This course crosses a ravine twice.
- Short Advanced 4.2km, 16 controls. Mostly off trail navigation but always relatively close to trails for relocation, if necessary. Some legs in featureless terrain require precise compass technique. This course crosses ravines so be prepared for some climb.
- Long Advanced 6.7 km, 19 controls. Some longer legs and ravine crossings. Some legs in featureless terrain require precise compass technique.
