Asticou Orienteering Practice Thursday Orienteering Practice
May 19th 2022 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Map: Cité des Jeunes
Parking and meeting point: We will meet at Gatineau Park parking lot P1 (Asticou) for 6:30.
Training:
For the intermediate group, we will be looking at more advanced contour detail this week. You will have an opportunity to get a little further from the trails and really understanding contours will go a long way to make finding those controls easier so really take the time to read the contours. We will start with a few controls as a group with a coach and then you can go off individually or in small groups to try the rest of the course.
For the advanced group, this practice session will provide a rare opportunity to run the same controls over and over again. This exercise is fun but it is also a great way to push your boundaries about and to learn to look farther ahead and see just how much you can see in the terrain and how early you can see it. What does it feel like to look for features you wouldn't normally look for? Now you can directly compare!
As always there will be some tips and helpful advice from one of our coaches at the start of the practice and there will be coaches around throughout to give you feedback.
Team Canada and Train to Train program athletes will start with a group warm-up that anyone is welcome to join.
There will be SI for this session as well as separate control descriptions so bring both your SI timing chip and your control description holder. Not this is rocky terrain and there may be ticks so dress appropriately.
Reserving maps: Please e-mail Jeff Teutsch at jeff@ottawaoc.ca by noon on Thursday to reserve a map. We do not guarantee maps for those that don't send an e-mail.
