Meet director: Niek Vandierdonck | Controller: Linda Connell

Our Summer Solstice Series is back after a few years of COVID-induced rest! This event is great fun for absolute beginners, families and elite runners alike.

For those of you new to the Summer Solstice, it is a series of 4 Score-O events happening every Tuesday in June, starting Tuesday, June 7th. In a Score-O you don’t need to visit the controls in order and you don’t even need to visit all of them. Instead, you strategically pick the controls in line with your running and map-reading abilities, as well as your personal handicap. Moreover, thanks to the handicap-system, even a novice orienteer has a chance to compete with elite runners.

Schedule

  • Registration: 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM (registration will close promptly at 6:00 PM as the mass start must occur at 6:45 PM - please be on time!)
  • Mass start: 6:45 PM
  • Finish: 7:45 PM

Location
Behind Beaverbrook Library at 2500 Campeau Drive. GPS coordinates: 45°19'21.5"N 75°53'46.4"W

Before the Event

  1. Decide if you will be running alone, or with a friend/family member in a team
  2. Read about the specific rules and format of the Summer Solstice Series of races
  3. Calculate your handicap (a score used to level the playing field for all experiences and ages - more information on the Summer Solstice information page). You'll also need to know this number for registration at the event site.

Make sure to come out to as many Summer Solstice meets as possible during the month of June to have the best possible standing at the end of the series!
