Summer Solstice #3: Glen Cairn Summer Solstice Series
June 21st 2022 5:30pm - 8:00pm
Map: Glen Cairn
Meet Director: Evan Raz | Controller: Peter Laurich
For this, the third Summer Solstice event, we are heading to a brand new map: Glen Cairn in Kanata! This map is almost completely urban and open, with a variety of school yards, streets, parks, and sport fields that are sure to lead to an extremely fast paced race. Some notes to keep in mind:
- The start will be at the Lion Dick Brule community center, at 170 Castlefrank Rd, Kanata. There is parking here, and there will likely be an outhouse as well.
- This map is new, and has also had some quick updates in the past week to expand the area for this event. As such, it may have a couple minor quirks (errors). I would say to take this up with the mapper, but since that was also me, I would like to request that everyone ignores them
- In contrast to last week, some people may be able to clear the course in 45 to 50 minutes. Speed will be extra important!
- Be careful crossing roads! Castlefrank road can have some traffic, so it is recommended that you cross at a designated crossing.
- There are a few special symbols which will be noted on the map.
- The central townhouse areas are out of bounds, and will be marked as such
- Please be mindful of anyone using the sports fields, even if orienteering seems cooler.
- There is a stream on the map the has the potential to be traversed for some route choices. There are also some small tunnels. Do with this information what you will.
Hope to see you there!
