Summer Sprint , Beacon Hill North Summer Orienteering
August 30th 2023 5:45pm - 7:45pm
Map: Ski Hill Park
On Wednesday August 30th, we invite you to join us for an evening sprint in Beacon Hill North, in the inner east suburbs of Ottawa. This event is part of our Summer Sprint series and is being held on the map known as Ski Hill Park. Both courses will remain in the largely flat section of the map, in open parkland, and along roads/sidewalks (spikes not recommended). We expect the courses will offer a chance for some fast and furious sprinting – but as always, "sprint" events are open to everyone and there is no need to run, let alone sprint, so feel free to take the course at your own speed.
A few important safety notes:
- There is construction in the area, some of which is along sidewalks/curbs and there is a slight chance it could require you to use the road for short sections (traffic is usually light). Please ensure to respect all construction zones and use extreme caution navigating these areas.
- There are several sports fields. If they are being used, please be respectful and cautious and go around them even if they are not marked as out of bounds, so as not to interfere with the events or spectators.
- Both courses go through some parking lots. These parkings lots are not usually too busy, but be aware of your surroundings and use caution.
Parking is at Thomas D'Arcy McGee Catholic School at 635 La Vérendrye Drive, and nearby roads offer additional parking if needed. OC Transpo bus Route 24 has a stop right in front (bus stop #2543) and connects with the O-Train at Blair and St-Laurent Stations. Washrooms are not available on site.
- Check-in: 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm
- Starts: 5:50 pm to 6:50 pm
- Course Closes: 7:45 pm (everyone must report to the Download Station)
Course lengths:
- Short: 2.6 km
- Long: 3.5 km
Faster participants are welcome to run the Long course first, followed by the Short if time allows, but please know your abilities and ensure to be back by 7:45pm when the courses close.
Please be eco-friendly and bring your water bottle. There will be no water on the courses.
Hope to see you there!
