Map: March Highlands

On 15 October we return to the excellent forests of March Highlands, where we last had a meet in the spring. The changing seasons will make for a different experience.

Registration is in the usual spot at the junction of 2nd Line Road and Klondike Road. Parking is along west side of 2nd Line Road.

There will be a 500m walk to the start. The finish will be close to registration. Don't forget to download after finishing!

There will be 4 courses to choose from:

  • Novice - 2.0 km, 10 controls
  • Intermediate - 3.1 km, 10 controls
  • Short Advanced - 4.0 km, 13 controls
  • Long Advanced - 7.2 km, 18 controls
March Highlands is a technical orienteering area. In previous meets the winners on the advanced courses ran it in ~10 min/km, middle of the pack ~20 min/km. You might want to bear that in mind when deciding on which course to do.

March Highlands is a popular area for mountain biking. Be aware when crossing trails and share the trails with the cyclists.

Some notes on the map:
- The last major update was in October 2020. Recent updates have mostly been to the trail network.
- With the leaves covering the ground, some trails can be very hard to see.
- Fall has been dry, so some water features are not as prominent in the terrain as they are on the map.
- The mountain bikers are industrious. There may be new trails in the terrain that are not on the map, or minor changes to existing trails. This should only be a concern for the Advanced courses, though.
