Bilberry Creek Fall Event Fall Series
September 29th 2024 10:00am - 2:00pm
Map: Bilberry Creek
This meet will take place in Bilberry Creek. Parts of this area contain a dense trail network with an overwhelming number of trails to choose from while participants of the advanced courses will be taken to some of the less travelled areas. One thing is consistent throughout the map though - you can expect steep forested ravines! For the most part the creek beds and slopes were quite dry but that may have changed with Wednesday's rain.
Meeting Point: Parking on Lacroix Avenue and surrounding streets. Take the paved path at the NW corner to this soccer field. Please respect the neighbourhood. We should NOT be using the community centre parking lot as suggested earlier.
Registration: 10am - 11:00am (Registration closes at 11:00 so the volunteer registrars can get out on course!)
Starts: 10:30am - 11:30am
Finish: Courses close and controls are collected at 2pm. All participants must report to finish by 2pm.
Courses
We will have four courses available:
Novice - 2.2km - 14 controls - 1:7,500 map scale - 65m climb
Intermediate - 3.2km - 11 controls - 1:7,500 map scale - 120m climb
Short Advanced - 4.1km - 15 controls - 1:7,500 map scale - 155m climb
Long Advanced - 6.1km - 20 controls - 1:10,000 map scale - 190m climb
Event Notes
The Novice course will cross many trail junctions. While many of these will have controls at them as you complete the course, the trail network is simply too dense to have controls at each. Keep an eye out for additional flagging tape that will indicate you're on the right path!
Bilberry Creek runs through the map. While it can be crossed in many places if you're willing to get wet, there are a number of places where crossing is easier. The image below shows some of the crossings you may encounter from large bridges to more informal crossings where trails converge at generally shallower or narrower points.
The trail network is well used by local residents. There are also many dog walkers in this area and you may encounter off-leash dogs during the event. Please be respectful of others while out on your course.
If anyone is available to help pick up controls after the event please reach out to Ian (ian@ottawaoc.ca). Your help would be greatly appreciated!
We are also looking for greeters for all upcoming meets. A simple task of making everyone feel welcome, answer questions, help with registration tablets.... There is still, then, lots of time to get out on course yourself. If you can help out, please email lynda@ottawaoc.ca. Thank you.
Thanks and we hope to see you out there!
