Summer Sprint #2 - Glen Cairn Summer Orienteering
August 12th 2025 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Map: Glen Cairn
For the second Sprint event of the summer, we are in the west end of the city, this time in Glen Cairn. While the navigation is relatively easy and suitable for everyone, most controls have several route options to chose from, which will make the orienteering more interesting.
The course covers numerous parks in the area and the surrounding streets. Most of these streets are very quiet but you will be crossing Castlefrank Rd a couple of times. One crossing is designated at an all-way stop and at the other you have some distance to chose where to cross safely.
There are several sports fields. If they are being used, please be respectful and cautious and go around them even if they are not marked as out of bounds, so as not to interfere with the events or spectators.
Both courses go through some parking lots. Most of these parkings lots are not usually too busy, but be aware of your surroundings and use caution. The parking lots near the pool and ice arena usually have more cars in them.
Two point-to-point courses will be offered:
Long Course: 3.7km, 19 controls
Short Course: 2.7 km 16 controls
Distance is measured as the crow flies. Actually running distance will likely be 1-1.5km further.
Registration will open between 6:00-7:00pm. Start when you like between 6:15 - 7:15pm. Courses will close and you must be back by 8:00pm.
Meet at the Clarence Maheral Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/wYcEsuoce5rGW7nd8. There is additional parking available along Old Colony Rd if the parking lot is full.
There will be no water on the course as they are relatively short. With the warm weather, bring a bottle with you if you think you may need it while on the course. There will be water at the finish.
Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday evening,
Paul Lefebvre
