Map: Cité des Jeunes

The fall rhapsody is on which means that we will be able to enjoy the wonderful colours of Gatineau Park while orienteering! This Sunday we'll be using the south part of the Cité des Jeunes map which includes some wide trails, single track trails, a paved multi-use pathway and a road running through the middle. The single track trails used for mountain biking have the leaves cleared but other single track trails are covered with leaves which make them hard to identify at this time of year. It can be very easy to run by a junction of one of these trails so it is important to remain focused on your surroundings. Off trail, you will experience mainly open forest with great visibility but running speed can vary significantly due to rocky ground and steep terrain. Good route choices will minimize areas marked with rocky ground (small black dots) for faster navigation. Caution should also be taken when navigating near cliffs or very steep terrain which can be dangerous.

The following courses will be waiting for you:

  • Novice - 2.9km, 12 controls
  • Intermediate – 3.5km, 13 controls
  • Short Advanced – 4.1km, 12 controls
  • Long Advanced – 7.0km, 20 controls

This is a popular time to visit Gatineau Park so you can expect to come across hikers, road bikers, mountain bikers as well as cars. The Gatineau Parkway will have cyclists and buses in the morning and cars will be allowed on the road starting at noon. Please ensure that you look both ways before crossing trails or roads and stop in safe locations where other users can pass.

Parking will be at the following location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xkozaCZM2RsLvbJA7 - Gatineau Park P1 in the Asticou property.

  • Registration: 10am - 11:00am (Registration closes at 11:00 so the volunteer registrars can get out on course!)
  • Starts: 10:15 - 11:30
  • Finish: Courses close and controls are collected at 2pm. All participants must report to finish by 2pm.

Meet director - James Connell, Controller - Richard Guttormson
