Constance Bay B-meet Summer Orienteering

After a rainy week, the weather on Sunday is looking to be drier but a bit cooler for orienteering in the Torbolton Forest. The sandy soil should allow the rain from this week to soak in quickly. Registration will take place at the Constance Bay Community Centre https://maps.app.goo.gl/scExEs97jc41DSQG6 . Note that it is unknown at this time if the washrooms will be accessible, so plan accordingly.

We will have the standard Novice and Intermediate Courses available. In addition, we will have a Mass Start 90 minute Score-O course.

As with all Score-O courses, you can do as many or as few of the controls as you want in any order within the time allowed. Many of the controls are fairly close to each other, so expect to be able to visit more controls than a typical Sunday course. For those that usually do the Intermediate course, almost all of the the Intermediate Course controls are also on the Score-O course as well. So this would be a great opportunity to try a Score-O, as it will give you an opportunity to select your own route and controls.

Scoring will be as follows:

  1. 5 points per control collected
  2. 1 point per full minute early if you collect all the controls on your course
  3. -2 points per minute or portion of a minute late to the finish after 90 minutes (Please make sure you have a watch)

Timing details:

  • Registration: 9:45 to 10:45 am
  • Mini clinic for newcomers at 10:30 am
  • Novice and Intermediate Starts: 10:00 to 11:15 am
  • Score-O Mass Start: 10:45 am*
  • Courses close: 1:15 pm

*If you are unable to make the Mass Start time or need to start earlier, you can start on your own by using the Start punch. Your 90 min clock will start then.

Course details:

  • Novice: 2.6 km and 14 controls
  • Intermediate: 3.8 km and 10 controls
  • Score-O: ~8-9 km and 28 controls in 90 minutes

If you are planning to join or renew please do so by end of day Friday to ensure being in the onsite database. Memberships and Annual Passes are only available on line this year. If you have not yet purchased or renewed your membership you will be charged the guest price. If you miss the cut-off, bring your receipt with you.
