Did you know that Wednesday, May 24th is World Orienteering Day!? World Orienteering Day is an attempt to set a world record for orienteering participation on a single day and enhance the profile of the sport. Last year, over 250,000 participants worldwide took part in the event, through their schools and clubs.

Last year Orienteering Ottawa had almost 200 people participate and we’re looking to better that mark. Please consider coming out to this year’s event to support the world-wide initiative.
Schedule something for everyone:
1:00 – 4:00 pm Special High School Program, Carlington Park. If you are interested please contact Francis Kawam at WOD@ottawaoc.ca for details
6:00 – 8:00 pm: Orienteering Ottawa World Orienteering Day Drop-In Event, Carlington Woods
Program:

WorldOrienteeringDay-O course - novice-intermediate classic course about 2.5 km in length open to everybody. You may follow this course alone or in groups at your own speed.

Line-O - Unlike classic orienteering there are no controls marked on the map. You must follow the route indicated on the map and punch every control you pass by. You must get all the unmapped controls to complete the course. This course will also serve as our club's annual spring fitness test loop so expect this 3 km loop to present some challenges.

String-O - We will be offering a short 200 m string course to give the very young a chance to orienteer independently. Participants follow a course marked by a “string” from control to control in a loop over the terrain. (Suitable for ages 3-6 years old)

Intro-to-O - a one hour clinic introducing participants to our sport. Instructors will take small groups through the WOD-O course and teach the basics of orienteering to enable participants to join us at our regular meets and run the novice course with confidence. There is a small charge for this course for non-members - $5 per adult, $3 for juniors, $10 family max. Meet at 1826 Woodward Dr between 6-6:15 pm.

All except the Intro-to_O clinic are free.
Pre-registration is requested for all of the above to ensure we have sufficient instructors and maps.
Parking for all is in the rear parking lot of the Ottawa Reality Board, 1826 Woodward Drive (see map below)
