March Highlands Navigation Training (moved from The Barrens) Thursday Orienteering Practice
September 20th 2018 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Jeff Teutsch (Coach), Stefan Bergstrom (Coach)
Map: March Highlands
Parking and meeting point: Park on Second Line near the intersection with Klondike Rd. We will meet at the trailhead at the intersection there.
Training: This training exercise is all focused detailed map reading and precision navigation.
You will have the option to choose from one of the following exercises:
- Line-O (following the line marked on the map closely enough that you can find the controls along the way)
- Corridor (stay in the corridor of map shown (the rest is blanked or faded out) and find the controls along the way)
- Some of each - bring both the line-o and corridor maps with you and switch part way along.
Regardless of which option you choose the exercise is designed to force you to read the map very carefully and precisely in order to follow the route and find the flags.
Depending on numbers we may offer a map walk option along the course with a coach for those that want it.
There will be no SI or other timing for this training.
Bring a headlamp - it will be dark before the end of the session at 8:00.
HPP and Train to Train program athletes will start with a group warm-up that anyone is welcome to join.
A reminder to please e-mail Jeff Teutsch at programs@ottawaoc.ca by noon on Thursday to reserve a map. We do not guarantee maps for those that don't send an e-mail.
