All Saints High School Orienteering Practice Thursday Orienteering Practice
May 2nd 2019 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Jeff Teutsch (Coach), Stefan Bergstrom (Coach)
Map: All Saints HS
Parking and meeting point: We will be meeting at the east end of the All Saints High School parking lot (turn left when you enter the parking lot) for a 6:30 start.
Training: This practice will be all about reading control details and using 'collecting features' to help you along the way for intermediate orienteering and relocation for advanced orienteering. The intermediate group will also get a lesson on using an orienteering thumb compass.
The advanced group will get 4 courses, two of which have trails on the and two of which have the trails removed. The intention is to work on simplifying your orienteering by using the trails as collecting and catching features (not as handrails!) and seeing how it feels differently to when you don't have the trails to help you simplify. If you want an extra challenge you should run one of the trailless courses with a similar confident simplification as when you had the trails on the map and see if you can push the pace.
Train to Train athletes will get a combination of the above exercises based on experience.
A reminder to please e-mail Jeff Teutsch at programs@ottawaoc.ca by noon on Thursday to reserve a map. We do not guarantee maps for those that don't send an e-mail.
