Longfields Orienteering Practice Thursday Orienteering Practice
October 10th 2019 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Jeff Teutsch (Coach), Jennie Anderson (Coach)
Parking and meeting point: We will park and meet at the Ken Ross Park parking lot on Longfields Dr in Barrhaven. The pin in the map below is in the exact location.
Training:
This is a brand new map made by Tomas Graham that we will be experiencing for the very first time. The map is made to the new International Specification for Sprint Orienteering Maps which has a few changes from the previous sprint map specification.
The training will consist of a combination of short sprint orienteering loops with various route choices and some simulation exercises in which you will be looking at map from around the world and have to answer questions about the map and courses while running a loop on the track.
The intermediate group will do one or two of the orienteering loops with a coach and then have the option to do more orienteering loops or try some of the simulation exercises.
The advanced and high performance groups will do a combination of the orienteering loops and simulation exercises either as intervals for a hard workout or at a comfortable pace.
HPP and Train to Train program athletes will start with a group warm-up that anyone is welcome to join.
A reminder to please e-mail Jeff Teutsch at programs@ottawaoc.ca by noon on Thursday to reserve a map. We do not guarantee maps for those that don't send an e-mail.
Note: Everyone should have a headlamp for this practice (we strongly recommend one with at least 1000 lumens) as it will be getting dark before the end of the session. If you have any questions about purchasing a headlamp please let us know.
