The final event in this summer's sprint series will be run on a new map in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau near the Deschenes Rapids of the Ottawa River.

UPDATE : Please note that the Champlain Bridge is under repair and you can expect further delays in crossing the Ottawa River at this time especially via the Champlain bridge which is down to one lane in each direction and reduced speed due to construction

The Map:

Drawn at 1:10 000 (with Open Mapper and contours based on lidar) and printed at 1:4000 the map was originally conceived as a Summer Solstice or Sunday series event map.

The snippet being used for this event is largely in the terrain of an urban forest. The map is punctuated with many rock features, open fields and an intricate network of forest trails. Seasonal conditions on the map vary greatly altering the runnability of shorelines and marsh features. At this time of year the water is low and most marshes are dry enough to run through as rough open or open woods areas. The shore of the Ottawa River is easily traversable.

The NCC Voyageurs bike path runs through the map as does a fine gravel rail trail from the former CN line that ran along what is now Lucerne Blvd. (aka The lower Aylmer Road)

Courses:

Courses are flat and fast.

The short course is 2400 m in length (11 controls) and is a combination of street and terrain running.

The long course at 4100 m (18 controls) is entirely in the terrain.

Both courses either run along or cross the bike path to a minimal extent.

PLEASE NOTE EXTREME CAUTION WHILE CROSSING OR RUNNING ALONG THIS PAVED VERY ACTIVE BIKE PATH. ALSO NOTE: Courses have been designed to minimize contact with poison ivy but it is present in the area. Long pants are advised.

If there is rain just prior to the event expect the trails to be water logged.

Start:

The registration area will be at the cul de sac at the west end of Rue Deschenes in Aylmer. ( here )

The start will be a short walk from the registration tent.

Parking will be along the streets of the neighbourhood.

Note the times for the meet structure indicated below and expect delays in crossing the Ottawa River at this time especially via the Champlain bridge which is down to one lane in each direction and reduced speed due to construction

If possible cycling to the site would be advisable. (~6km from the Ottawa side of the Champlain bridge)

Hope you can make it out.
