Organizer: Jeff Teutsch (Coach)

Map: March Highlands

Parking and meeting point:

We will meet at the Brady trailhead (where the trail heads into the woods opposite Brady Ave) on Old Second Line Rd. If you are driving parking is along Old Second Line. See google maps here.

Practice details:

This practice will be our first that truly focuses on forest orienteering. Different groups will be working on different skills:

Intermediate group - this group will spend the session doing a map walk with an instructor. They will be looking at, and talking about attackpoints and precision orienteering (reading all of the detail on the map!).

Advanced and Train to Train groups - these groups will have an exercise involving detailed (zoom) map reading. Courses are being specifically set to focus on this.

Team Canada athletes - Team Canada athletes will have an extended version of the advanced exercise - an extra corridor loop in the dark! I'll try to keep it reasonable ;)

You will want to have a headlamp with you this week as it will be getting dark around 7:00, and about half an hour earlier in the woods. We recommend a headlamp with a rating of at least 500 lumens and more is better. If you have any questions about headlamps just ask (jeff@ottawaoc.ca)

All participants should also bring a compass (we will have a few extras if you don't have one) and, optionally, a control description holder

Registration:

In order to guarantee that you get a freshly printed map please send an email to jeff@ottawaoc.ca by noon on Thursday. We will do our best to accommodate those that register Thursday afternoon by sharing maps.
