Map: Wesley Clover Parks - Corkstown Rd

Meet Director/Controller Phil and Adrian Turcanu

After a blazing fast urban score-o, this week we are moving to forest for a summer solstice at Wesley Clover parks. Please read this information as there is some important notes about the map, course and logistics (parking).

RACE TIMING:

  • Registration : 5:30 pm - 6:30. Mass start 6:45.
  • Mini clinic for youngsters 12 and under, and for those new to orienteering. - 6:15
  • Finish : 1 hour after actual start. 2 point penalty for each minute late.

A handicap system based on age, gender and experience is used to 'level the field' so that while strong experienced orienteers will have to strive to get all the controls, youngsters, oldsters and newcomers can enjoy working toward goals more suited to them. Be sure to complete this form online before your first meet. It can be found on the Summer Solstice page .(en francais)

Be sure to bring a watch!

Your score for the series is your best 2 events of the three.

PARKING:
Corkstown road is closed if you are coming from the east direction. You will have to exit at march road and turn right on Corkstown from there. The parking will be at the Kanata Nordic parking lot: 411 Corkstown Rd, Nepean, ON K2K 2Y1 (top of the hill, ~200 m. west of NCC P3 )

MAP:
There are some unmarked trails on the plateau. Runners are advised to think of the big picture for contours and point objects like boulders when running. I tried from the best of my availability to make the control locations as obvious as possible but it is possible that you will be running through areas that are not very clear. Good compass and big features is the key to succeeding here.

OUT OF BOUNDS AREAS:
We have a few rules for this meet.
1) The campground is to be strictly off limits.
2) The east most fields are completely off limits.
Both of these areas are clearly marked on the map using purple hash symbol.

As an added rule, there is absolutely no fence uncrossable fence hopping permitted at this event. The uncrossable fences have two tags instead of the one tag. These will not be marked in purple on the map but they are easily identifiable.
Please be considerate of our land owner's land and facilities.

TERRAIN WARNINGS:
Please be very cautious with poison ivy (and if you really go off into the wilderness, wild parsnip). Generally speaking, the course was set in such a way that you do not go through those areas. As always, ticks are very present in this type of terrain so please use caution following your run.

COURSE:
There is no water on this course. There will be water at the finish.

We look forward to having you with us at this June 20 event. An optimal clear route will be posted at the finish for anyone who wanted to see :)

NEXT EVENT:
Our final SS event, Tuesday, June 27, will also be the occasion of our Spring Series social get together. Following the meet, while we wait for the final results, we will gather for a Pizza Party! Pizza's will be brought in from Willi's Pizza at a cost of $5 per slice and $1 per drink can. Are you going to be there? Let us know in advance so we can order the pizzas and we can all compare notes while we replenish the bodily supplies. Please bring cash for payment of the pizza and drinks.
