Notice: The organizers of tonight’s meeting have checked the weather and agreed that the chances of thunderstorms during our event in Carp tonight are low. Bearing this in mind we have decided to proceed with the event. If there is a sudden change in weather and there is lightning present immediately before the event it will need to be cancelled at the last minute. If there is lightning present mid-way through the event, the event will be cut short at that time.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you in Carp!

Your Local Meet Team.

The final summer solstice score-o event will be held on Tuesday at the Carp Fairgrounds. After some challenging forest navigation last week (thanks Phil and Adrian!), we will be returning to urban orienteering through fields of all types, around schools and barns, by a delicious ice cream store and over the top of (or at least around) possibly the safest place in all of Canada. Come and join us!

RACE TIMING:

Registration : 5:30 pm - 6:30. Mass start 6:45.

Mini clinic for youngsters 12 and under, and for those new to orienteering. - 6:15

Finish : 1 hour after actual start. 2 point penalty for each minute late.

A handicap system based on age, gender and experience is used to 'level the field' so that while strong experienced orienteers will have to strive to get all the controls, youngsters, oldsters and newcomers can enjoy working toward goals more suited to them. Be sure to complete this form online before your first meet. It can be found on the Summer Solstice page .

Be sure to bring a watch!

Your score for the series is your best 2 events of the three.

Parking:
Parking will be in the gravel lot of the southwestern corner of the Carp Agricultural Society at 3790 Carp Rd, Carp, ON (link)

Map & Notes

We will be using a sprint map printed at 1:5500 to fit the map on one big page. The area covers small streets, parks, school grounds and a large grass field. Spikes are not recommended.

There is construction along some streets and paths. This has been noted with the purple out of bounds symbol on the map and is also well visible in the terrain.

One of the major streets has also been marked as out of bounds with distinct crossing points due to the potential for high traffic in the area. Please make sure to cross only at the crossing points and exercise caution when doing so.
There is absolutely no uncrossable fence hopping permitted at this event. The uncrossable fences have two tags instead of one. These will not be marked in purple on the map but they are easily identifiable.

Continuing the importance of the point above, the northern section of the map has several barbed wire fences that have been marked as uncrossable on the map. There will be a few “fence” controls in this area, but these will be placed a few metres away from the fence for obvious reasons.

One of the fields has long grass and prickly things. You may encounter ticks, so please be sure to do a careful tick check when you have finished your race.

After Stay for Pizza:
Following the meet, while we wait for the final results, we will gather for a Pizza Party! Pizzas will be brought in from Willi's Pizza at a cost of $5 per slice and $1 per drink can. Are you going to be there? Let us know in advance so we can order the pizzas and we can all compare notes while we replenish the bodily supplies. Please bring cash for payment of the pizza and drinks.

Thanks,
Ingrid & Steve
