Almonte Fall Series
September 28th 2025 10:00am - 2:00pm
Almonte Orienteering Sunday, Sep 28, 2025.
Welcome to the Town of Almonte. The last time we had an Orienteering race in Almonte was in 2018. The map covering Downtown Almonte and Gemmill Park has been completely updated from LIDAR. There are new trails and a new Disc Golf course that adds to the complexity. In the downtown area you may recognize some buildings and street views as the town has been the film locations of numerous Hallmark Christmas movies. After your race, take the opportunity to explore the Almonte Downtown with its many coffee shops, restaurants, and stores.
Location: Gemmill Park, Almonte.
Park at the John Levi Community Centre. 182 Bridge Street, Almonte, ON K0A 1A0

Registration: 10am - 11:00am (Registration closes at 11:00 so the volunteer registrars can get out on course!)
Starts: 10:15 - 11:30
Finish: Courses close and controls are collected at 2pm. All participants must report to finish by 2pm.
Washrooms are available in Gemmill Park and in the John Levi Community Centre.
The following courses will be waiting for you:
- Novice - 2.2km, 20 controls
- Intermediate – 2.5km, 20 controls
- Short Advanced – 4.0km, 26 controls
- Long Advanced – 5.1km, 33 controls
The Novice and Intermediate courses are running completely inside Gemmill Park, a large park with a track, soccer and baseball field and a forested section with many trails. The courses are not crossing any streets.
The Short Advanced and Long Advanced course start off running in the Almonte Downtown’s complex urban terrain. Halfway through the course they have a map flip and continue in Gemmill Park. As the urban portion is mostly on pavement, shoes with metal studs are not recommended. The two advanced courses do cross streets with traffic, so please be careful and watch for traffic before crossing streets. However, on a Sunday morning the traffic should be light. For all courses long pants are recommended as there are a few patches of Poison Ivy in the park.
Map Scale 1:4,000, contours 2m. Sprint standard IOF ISSprOM 2019-2 Revision 6, field checked and drafted spring of 2025. Please be aware that in Sprint orienteering the following symbols are forbidden to cross. Please respect the private properties.
The map has a couple of places in the urban area where you can run on two levels, above and below. See this example.
Safety and Ethics: We encourage you to read our Safety and Ethics page to ensure a safe and enjoyable run.
We run rain or shine but if you have any doubts check this site for last minute changes.
New at orienteering or a bit rusty? Think you may need a quick review of map reading or some help with route planning? Join us at 10:30 for a 15-minute Mini-Intro to Orienteering. We ask that you arrive early enough to register for the event first, so you have a map in-hand. The instructor will cover the event type, general procedures (SI stick, Clear and Check, finish process etc), safety information and basic map reading/navigation pointers. Look for the sign near the registration table and we'll see you there.
Water: Please bring your own water bottles. We will provide water but limit the use of disposable cups. Please have your water bottles at the finish.
As always, make sure you do a careful tick check when you get back.
The following day visit our Route Gadget page to enter the route you took and compare to others or just have a look at how others tackled the course. -- a great learning tool.
Welcome,
Stefan Bergstrom, Course planner and mapper
